Halloween is nearly here!!

I noticed that the most hits on my blog are coming from people searching for Medusa makeup, so I thought i’d post up a few pictures of my attempt and explain how I created it!

This is my version of Medusa …

The makeup that I used to create this look is as follows

Base

Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation

Benefit ‘Hello Flawless’ Powder Coverage

Benefit Hoola Bronzing Powder

Eyes

Urban Decay Eyeshadows in Mildew, Kush and Bender

Urban Decay Stardust in Griffiths

Urban Decay 24/7 Liner in Perversion

Stargazer Eyelashes in 13

Stick on green crystals from craft store

To create this makeup, I placed a pair of fishnet stockings over my head and used the various green eyeshadows to make a winged out shape out over my temples. I didn’t do this in any particular colour way, I just made sure that I matched each side by doing the same colours in the same places.

I went over the entire area with Urban Decay Stardust to make it all glittery and applied lashings of black eyeliner to the upper and lower lashes and both the waterline and the tightline, bringing the liner to a point on the inside of my eye.

I used green stick on gems from a craft store to go around the outside of the design and add extra sparkle.

I made my head-dress from a Tiara band, pipe cleaners, paper mache, green paint, green glitter spray and red stick on gems for the snakes eyes!!

I hope you have fun creating your Halloween look for 2012!

For the love of Lipstick

For as long as I can remember I have taken the dark eyes & pale lips approach to my makeup. I love a heavy smokey eye, combined with fairly plain skin and just a slick of gloss. As you can see from the next couple of pictures, this has been my staple ‘go to’ look for quite some time ..

I have a few products that I use when I have nude lips. My favourite way of creating a very basic nude lip (Per the pics above) is to use MAC ‘What comes naturally’ lip pencil all over my lips and then just finish it off with a touch of either Carmex Cherry Lip balm or Cocoa Butter Vaseline, for a bit of moisture and a natural shine, you can buy these items at Boots.

If I want to have a glossier look then my favourite lip glosses are ‘Sexy Mother Pucker’ from Soap and Glory, MAC Lustreglass in ‘Luminary’ or the gorgeous ‘Marshmallow Elect’ Lancome Juicy Tube

If I am in a sparkly mood then I have an amazing glitter ‘top coat’ gloss from Christian Dior, it was released a few years ago as a limited edition at Christmas so cannot be brought now, Sorry! It looks so stunning on but the glitter chunks are large and it can be uncomfortable to wear after a while.

Me with a glossy nude lip …

Recently I have been being a bit more experimental with my makeup and have introduced some colour into my life! I have to say that I always thought that coloured lipsticks didn’t suit me as I don’t have the fullest of lips. However, I have experimented with some colours and I am pleased to say that I feel very differently now.

So, this first look (Below) was created using Estee Lauder Pure Colour Long-Lasting Lipstick in Black Wine. Now this was a limited edition colour that is sadly no longer available but I have found that MAC Dubonnet Lipstick is quite similar if you line and cover your lips with MAC Beet underneath to give it the darker/purple tone, this also helps to set your lipstick!

The Nail Varnish is OPI ‘The Thrill of Brazil’ which you can buy here

I have become a tad obsessed with Mad Men recently. The craze missed me when it was first came out but I am now at the end of the 2nd series and my girl crush on Christina Hendricks grows by the day! Inspired by the fabulous makeup in the show I tried to create a ‘Mad Men’ look for a recent night out, this obviously required a red lipstick. I used MAC Russian Red to create the look, which is a slightly more blueish red and is quite matte on the lips. I used Rimmel exaggerate lip liner in 024 Red Diva to line and provide the base to my colour to give an even more matte finish and a brighter red base. I really like the results – what do you think?

Having started being brave with Reds I decided that I wanted to extend my lip colour palette and try a more ‘out there’ colour. On a shopping trip to Bluewater I visited the MAC counter in House of Fraser and advised the assistant that I was looking for a bright pink. I had my friends daughter Lilia with me (she’s 4 and like most little girls LOVES makeup) and she picked the colour that she decided looked best of the two that the assistant tried on me, we settled on ‘Girl About Town’ lipstick and Magenta Lip Pencil.

I decided to premier my pink lipped look at my friend’s wedding on Saturday and as I was wearing a bright pink top, it seemed fitting to match my lips to my outfit. I hope that you love the look as much as I do!

This pic is me and my gorgeous friend Jenna!

My plan now is to try out some more exciting colours … maybe an orange or a coral next! I shall keep you posted!

What’s your favourite lip colour?

Make me beautiful …

I’m sure that pretty much every woman has ‘go to’ beauty buys, the items that you just can’t live without. When I got to thinking about mine, I realised that I actually have quite a few products that I buy on a fairly regular basis.

I wear makeup every single day, as I have naturally dry and sensitive skin this means that I have to use a really intense moisturising product. Fortunately, Clinique have provided the perfect solution in Moisture Surge

I cannot rave about this product enough. It is a really lightweight gel (it also comes in a spray for holiday – LOVE IT!) that it soaks perfectly into your skin. I apply this every morning underneath my foundation and every evening before I go to bed to keep my face silky soft.

I know that for a lot of girls ‘less is more’ when it comes to foundation but I like a full coverage. I was a huge fan of Clinique’s Repair Wear foundation until they discontinued my shade (Alabaster) recently. I will admit to having a mini-breakdown when they first announced that they were discontinuing the colour. However, since then I have discovered that I am a big fan of Estee Lauder’s Double Wear Foundation

I use shade 1C1 Shell as I am a very pale skinned girl. This foundation is more expensive than my previous one at nearly £25 a bottle, the texture of it means that I need to use a lot less to get the full coverage that I like.

I also set my foundation with powder (I did say that I like a full coverage) and have recently stumbled upon Benefit’s “Hello Flawless” Concealer/Powder and I LOVE it.

‘Champagne’ is the colour that best suits my skin tone in this product. I love the versatility of this powder. It comes with both a brush for lighter coverage and a sponge for a full coverage effect. A definite winner in my book!

One of my pet hates is bad eyeliner, I prefer the softer line of a pencil eyeliner as I find a liquid can be too harsh but had difficulty finding a product that didn’t just smudge off during the day. That was until I discovered Urban Decay 24/7 eyeliner. These are, in my opinion, the best eyeliner on the market at the moment.

Look at all the fabulous colours!! I have this collection and I use it all the time, the pencils are soft and do literally ‘Glide-On’ Urban Decay got the name spot on! They smudge well to create smokey eyes and also stay on the water line … I think I’ve raved about these enough now. Just buy them, you won’t be disappointed!

Being naturally fair-haired, I cannot leave the house without Mascara. Without lashings of the black stuff on my stumpy little eyelashes my eyes look like ‘pissholes in the snow’ which is really not very attractive! My weapon of choice to rectify this is Lancome’s Hypnose Mascara

This is a thick mascara which comes on a heavily bristled brush and creates a really full dramatic effect on the eye. When I go ‘out, out’ I always wear false eyelashes but for day-to-day wear this Mascara is a winner.

Last but not least, I cannot live without Carmex. In my opinion it is the best lip moisturiser on the market. My preference is for the cherry variety and I prefer the tubes to the pots as I have false nails which get stuck in the pots.

I love that it smells so strong that people tell me  I smell of cherries when they come and speak to me.

So, that’s it, you now know the beauty products that I just can’t live without!

You can buy all of the products that I have  mentioned at www.boots.com apart from the Urban Decay pencils which you can buy here http://www.urbandecay.co.uk/

I hope that you found it helpful, if you have any questions then please post a comment and I will get back to you
