Halloween is nearly here!!

I noticed that the most hits on my blog are coming from people searching for Medusa makeup, so I thought i’d post up a few pictures of my attempt and explain how I created it!

This is my version of Medusa …

The makeup that I used to create this look is as follows

Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation

Benefit ‘Hello Flawless’ Powder Coverage

Benefit Hoola Bronzing Powder

Urban Decay Eyeshadows in Mildew, Kush and Bender

Urban Decay Stardust in Griffiths

Urban Decay 24/7 Liner in Perversion

Stargazer Eyelashes in 13

Stick on green crystals from craft store

To create this makeup, I placed a pair of fishnet stockings over my head and used the various green eyeshadows to make a winged out shape out over my temples. I didn’t do this in any particular colour way, I just made sure that I matched each side by doing the same colours in the same places.

I went over the entire area with Urban Decay Stardust to make it all glittery and applied lashings of black eyeliner to the upper and lower lashes and both the waterline and the tightline, bringing the liner to a point on the inside of my eye.

I used green stick on gems from a craft store to go around the outside of the design and add extra sparkle.

I made my head-dress from a Tiara band, pipe cleaners, paper mache, green paint, green glitter spray and red stick on gems for the snakes eyes!!

I hope you have fun creating your Halloween look for 2012!

Sparkles and Spooks

I haven’t updated you with any of my recent jewellery purchases for a while so thought i’d do a little update on the items that I am wearing the most at the moment!

As regular readers of my blog/facebook/twitter will know, I am a HUGE fan of Tatty Devine jewellery and recently I have made a few purchases that I love …

White Sugar Skull Ring & Earrings (not pictured)

You can still buy the Black Version of this ring on the Tatty Devine website here and the White earrings are in the sale here!

Before I went to V Festival I brought myself a gorgeous LARGE name necklace in Silver Glitter which read ” Smile” I loved it, sadly, it did not survive the festival and is currently in 4 pieces … I will get another one before the 2013 festival season though!

Yesterday Tatty Devine posted up pictures of their Halloween necklaces on their Facebook page, as a HUGE fan of Halloween and when I saw the ‘Bones’ necklace with the new amazing skull charm, it had to be mine!

How AWESOME is that?!

I’m now planning my Halloween makeup around this necklace and highly recommend that you visit the website or pop in to one of the stores to get your perfect Halloween accessories!

If you are as much of a fan of skull jewellery as I am then you might want to consider going to the Tatty Devine Sugar Skull workshop and make your own! You can book a place Here

Another big passion of mine is the wonderful hand made jewellery by Hayley at Diamonds and Daggers and I rarely leave the house without my wonderful one of a kind Unicorn brooch

In the 2nd picture you can also see my fabulous Blighty Love Shines necklace which is also from Diamonds and Daggers.

Hayley has recently restocked her Etsy store and you can buy her stunning sparkly delights here

Fat Girls are more Grateful …

How many times have I heard this comment, be it jokingly or insultingly on a night out? Honestly, I couldn’t tell you, but it’s quite a lot.

I have always assumed that this comment is in relation to sex as it seems to be the sleazier, vile, wouldn’t-touch-them-with-my-worst-enemies-festering-vagina kind of men that say it as I wobble past them. However, just recently, I’ve been thinking it may have a broader meaning and actually be more about us fatties being grateful for any kind of positive male contact.

I understand that positive male attention is not always easy to come by when you’re a big girl, I also understand that a lot of us have some pretty deep set self-esteem issues. I know that many of mine have come from previous relationships and subsequent encounters which have left me feeling less than positive about myself.

It is too easy to believe the hype, to listen to the mainstream media which tells us that we’re unworthy of anything positive because we’re fat. Let’s face it, a large proportion of the ‘normos’ in society are listening and believe it, I’m pretty sure some of the insults that I’ve had shouted at me in the street have come straight off of the pages of The Daily Mail and it’s not always easy to ignore it.

How do I think the ‘grateful’ comment came about? Well, I can only speak from personal experience and this is the most recent example I can think of …

So, you go out looking hot (or as hot as you’re going to get anyway) and you meet a MAN! A real man, with manliness and man-dom and he wants to talk … to you!?

*Looks around checking for a guide dog or a white stick*

Not only does he want to talk to you, he’s asking you about yourself and telling you “He much prefers a curvy woman” and he’s dismissing all of your put-downs of yourself with compliments and he’s dissing your gorgeous slim friends as “All skin and bones” and secretly you love it. Basically, he does just enough to make you feel that you’re special and that the fact that your fat arse is hanging over the sides of the chair is actually attractive to him.

So, you don’t panic and run away when he tries to kiss you, you enjoy it

**this man likes me enough to kiss me in public**

You feel desirable enough to agree to seeing him again and believe him when he says he’s looking for something long term and that he’d be proud to have you on his arm.

You go on another date (this one in the dark corner of a pub you’ve never heard of before) and you believe that it’s because he wants to spend time with you alone.

You believe it enough agree to another date, this time at your home, cooking a lovely meal and then who knows … Before you know it, you believe it enough to break out the ‘Wow, you’re flexible for a fat chick’ moves and a few other disreputable examples of sex-crobatics that couldn’t possibly be repeated on the intermaweb …

… and even though he’s not exactly Brad Pitt, you feel OK when he makes excuses to leave because he ‘has work early in the morning’ (Impressive professionals such as traders or …erm, pest controllers have to get a good night’s sleep) because this one’s a keeper and he really likes you, the sex definitely secured that deal … and you waited, you good girl.

Only it didn’t, did it?

The phone call never comes; instead you get the text, the text which says he’s not ready for a relationship, the text that asks to be fuck buddies instead …. the text that makes it clear that he’s ashamed to be seen with you in public and wants to keep you behind closed doors. The text that sends your self-esteem crashing down into the floor. Yet again.

Now, Had I been a fresh faced newcomer to the minefield that is fat girl dating, then I would have probably gone along with this ‘friends with benefits’ suggestion naively, still hoping that I’d be the one girl that would change his mind, the one girl that he’d commit to. In fact, I did – on more than one occasion.

Fortunately, I’m no longer grateful. I’m still stupid enough to fall for the lines as much as the next person … but what happens when I stop believing that anyone would be interested in me at all? I guess that’s when I start collecting cats.

So, are fat girls grateful?

No more so than anyone else that wants to be happy in a relationship and be loved. I personally just think that there are a whole breed of men that use fat girls because we’re more likely (I’m not saying we all are) to be vulnerable and damaged, therefore, more likely to go along with it.

Right now, after the umpteenth time of this happening to me, I feel a little bruised and am licking my wounds whilst resisting the urge to message him either something abusive or an endless stream of ‘Why?!’ questions.

I’ll get back to kissing frogs soon though, because there has to be one that’s ready to into a prince out there …. Doesn’t there?

An apology …

I am very sorry that I have been absent for some time! I have been a very busy girl ….

Mostly I have been relaunching and updating my Etsy store so I thought that i’d post up a few pictures of what I have been making ….

I use Genuine Swarovski Crystal and Sterling Silver to create most of my designs.

I am offering free shipping for the next 24 hours (YES THAT INCLUDES INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING TOO) if you use the code FREESHIP at checkout.

I hope that my designs make you smile

Summer Yummies

I should start off saying that whilst I love to cook, I am by no means a professional so please don’t judge me too harshly!

I am all about convenience and during the week I don’t want to have to make a lot of effort to get something dinner-like in my belly – especially when it’s hot and I’ve just done a 90minute commute home!

Sunny weather means sunny foods and for some reason I have more quick sunshine meals and marinades in my cooking repartee than wintery ones so I thought I’d share some of them with you. It is by complete coincidence that many of these recipes are low in fat, but I assure you that they are all very tasty!

Tandoori Chicken

 4 Tablespoons Tandoori Masala

6 Tablespoons Natural 0 or 2% fat Yoghurt

2 Tablespoons Vinegar

2 Tablespoons Lemon Juice

2 Tablespoons Vegetable Oil

This should be enough for a couple of large chicken breasts – or a few chicken portions if you’re using meat on the bone (remove the skin if you are though) score the chicken and put in the marinade and leave in the fridge at least overnight. To cook it you just put it under the grill, you can either chop up the chicken breasts or leave them whole and they will start to look a bit burnt when they’re cooked, it’s just the yoghurt and it adds to the taste.

Serve with some more of the yoghurt with mint sauce and chopped cucumber mixed in.

Chicken Zorba

This is a very summery zesty marinade – I LOVE this!

 4 Tablespoons Lime Juice

2 Tablespoons Mint Sauce

1 Tablespoon Ground Cumin

1 Tablespoon Ground Coriander

1 Tablespoon Ground Turmeric

Again, this will be enough for a couple of chicken breasts, this one I tend to cut into chunks. You grill it so it’s nice and low fat, this should be served with Hummus, pitta breads and salad. It’s delish!

Jack Daniels Chicken

Ok, this really isn’t low fat but it’s YUMMY!

6 Tablespoons of olive oil

6 Tablespoons of soy sauce

1 Tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce

1 tablespoons of mild mustard

2 teaspoons of salt

4 Tablespoons Jack Daniel’s whiskey

1 tablespoon of black pepper

2 Tablespoons of wine vinegar

1 Tablespoon of lemon juice

1 1/2 teaspoons of parsley

3 clove of minced garlic

This should do 2 -3 chicken breasts, score the skin and marinade overnight – cook under the grill or on the BBQ!!

Chicken Tikka Kebabs

  1 onion chopped

1 inch piece of fresh root ginger, peeled and chopped

2 garlic cloves, crushed

150ml natural yoghurt

2 red chillies

2 teaspoons ground coriander

1 teaspoon ground cumin

Half teaspoon turmeric

Juice of 1 lemon

1 teaspoon salt

Put all the ingredients in the blender and blitz till it’s a paste then marinade the chicken (you may need to add a bit of oil) overnight and cook under the grill or on the BBQ, this works best with the chicken cut into chunks and should do a couple of chicken breasts.

I serve with the mint/yoghurt/cucumber combination that I said about earlier.

So, that’s mostly what I end up eating during the week in the summer!

They all get the seal of approval from my housemate too … which is a good thing as he would live on Kebabs and biscuits if I didn’t cook!

I hope that you are all enjoying the sunshine

 Love and Kisses

Oooooh Fancy!

My name is Alyssa and I am a Fancy Dress-o-holic

Seriously, If there is ever an occasion where there is an opportunity to dress up in a stupid outfit and make an arse of myself – I’m ALL over it.

I should also point out that I am complete and utter fancy dress geek. As soon as I know the theme of the party the research begins to find out who I could be and what is going to suit my chubbilicious frame. I am quite creative so enjoy making aspects of my costume too if necessary.

I just wanted to share with you some of the costumes that I have worn over the years (Well at least since Facebook has been around to capture every single social event) and give you a bit of an explanation around them.

Let’s start with the professional stuff!! I was fortunate enough to have been involved in a movie called ‘Gangsters, Guns and Zombies’ as a zombie extra. It was such a fabulous experience that I did it a few times and took along various friends with me to different shoots. The makeup was done by a very talented girl called Alexandra Vlcek  and I loved the results … don’t I look scary!?!

You can view the trailer to the film here but I recommend caution if you’re not a fan of gore!

The next look was for a weekend wedding that I attended with a friend. We all arrived on the Friday night and they had a joint stag/hen party of which the theme was ‘TV Characters’ at the time I was TOTALLY obsessed with Gavin and Stacey and Nessa is one of my favourite characters – so I decided to go as her! Sadly I only have one picture ….

I was wearing a cushion as a pregnancy bump, fish net tights and knee-high boots to complete the look. Needless to say my date for the wedding came as Smithy, all be it a bald version as he refused to wear a wig!!

You can see what Nessa actually looks like here – I don’t think I did TOO bad!

Halloween is always an excellent excuse to do a bit of fancy dress – My take on Medusa is my favourite Halloween look to date.

I made the head-dress myself and the makeup look was achieved with facepaints, glitter and a pair of fish net tights!!

My friend had an 80’s theme for his 30th birthday party, it took me a fair while to find a character that I wanted to be but I settled on Mavis Cruet from Willo the Wisp, mostly because it meant that I got to wear a tutu …

This was my attempt (I’m slightly more neon than Mavis was)

… and you can go here to see what Mavis looks like in the cartoon.

The final look that I am going to show you was another 80s themed party, this time I decide that I wanted to do something along the ‘Disney’ lines. I settled on Ursula the Sea Witch from ‘The Little Mermaid’ – Here is my attempt!

I can’t find a picture of my tentacles at this time but I assure you that I spent a lot of time and care making them, only to get very drunk and leave them at the hall because I kept falling over them!

You can see the original Ursula here

I have a whole costume planned for my next Fancy Dress venture but I need someone to have a theme that it comes under! I REALLY want to go as …

So if someone could arrange a party for me to go to as Mike, that’d be very much appreciated!!

Wedding Days

My lovely cousin is getting married in October, I am very happy for her as she has been trying to find someone to settle down with for quite some time and thanks to EHarmony she finally seems to have found her puzzle piece. Now, this is lovely apart from one thing, he is one of the best friends of my evil ex-boyfriend which means that I have to spend a day in his company. I was kind of hoping to be able to snare a fit bloke to talk into being my arm candy on the day, however, I haven’t got a plus one so I’ve got to do this bad boy solo.

Obviously, this means that I need to look FIERCE!

I have started doing some browsing to try to come up with an idea of what I want to wear to make myself feel good on the day and I thought I’d share some of them with you.

I’ve had my eye on this Rainforest Paradise Maxi by Igigi for some time, I love the colours and think that on the black background they really do pop and look awesome. The variety of colour gives me varied makeup and accessories options but I am not sure I’d wear heels with a Maxi so I’m unsure that I’d feel ‘dressy’ enough.

Continuing with the maxi theme this beautiful ‘Kiyomi’ Zebra print dress by Igigi has caught my eye. I LOVE the red accents and could totally see me rocking this with a red clutch, pashmina and shoes. However, I would want to wear my red glitter Dorothy shoes and the fact that it’s a maxi might mean that they look a bit odd. I am of the opinion that Maxi’s look better with flats as the whole design of them is a bit boho, however, having done a quick scout online, I am struggling to find red flats that I like!

The sexy Siren Satin Dress by Kiyonna is another one that I have had my eye on. This really would be the sex kitten option, it’s satin and figure hugging but the way that it drapes makes it look very flattering on and with the right underwear I can smooth down the lumps and bumps that I wouldn’t want to have on show. I can just see this with some serious killer heels and 50s style hair and makeup and as it’s a bargain at just over £50 I could spend the money I’ve saved on more expensive shoes!!

Sticking with the sexy slinky vibe this dress by So Fabulous has caught my eye. It is called the Animal print Illusion dress as it has the dark panels at the side to create that hourglass illusion effect. I would need to order this and try it first though as the So Fabulous range is a little hit and miss on quality in my experience and a dress like this would need to be a decent thick material to work. I would personally accessorize this with a very HOT Pink shoe and makeup combination. I think it would look awesome with the monochrome dress.

The final option is to do what I did for a wedding a couple of years ago and get a dress made to measure. I LOVED the dress that I got made, It fitted me perfectly and I felt gorgeous in it. It did cost me over £250 BUT I personally think it was worth every penny. Here is a picture of me wearing my dress with my Mummy and Auntie Sheena

 What do you think?

I have until October to decide what I am going to wear but I always find it’s best to start the search early, if you have any suggestions, or know anyone that makes banging dresses then please do let me know!

For the love of Lipstick

For as long as I can remember I have taken the dark eyes & pale lips approach to my makeup. I love a heavy smokey eye, combined with fairly plain skin and just a slick of gloss. As you can see from the next couple of pictures, this has been my staple ‘go to’ look for quite some time ..

I have a few products that I use when I have nude lips. My favourite way of creating a very basic nude lip (Per the pics above) is to use MAC ‘What comes naturally’ lip pencil all over my lips and then just finish it off with a touch of either Carmex Cherry Lip balm or Cocoa Butter Vaseline, for a bit of moisture and a natural shine, you can buy these items at Boots.

If I want to have a glossier look then my favourite lip glosses are ‘Sexy Mother Pucker’ from Soap and Glory, MAC Lustreglass in ‘Luminary’ or the gorgeous ‘Marshmallow Elect’ Lancome Juicy Tube

If I am in a sparkly mood then I have an amazing glitter ‘top coat’ gloss from Christian Dior, it was released a few years ago as a limited edition at Christmas so cannot be brought now, Sorry! It looks so stunning on but the glitter chunks are large and it can be uncomfortable to wear after a while.

Me with a glossy nude lip …

Recently I have been being a bit more experimental with my makeup and have introduced some colour into my life! I have to say that I always thought that coloured lipsticks didn’t suit me as I don’t have the fullest of lips. However, I have experimented with some colours and I am pleased to say that I feel very differently now.

So, this first look (Below) was created using Estee Lauder Pure Colour Long-Lasting Lipstick in Black Wine. Now this was a limited edition colour that is sadly no longer available but I have found that MAC Dubonnet Lipstick is quite similar if you line and cover your lips with MAC Beet underneath to give it the darker/purple tone, this also helps to set your lipstick!

The Nail Varnish is OPI ‘The Thrill of Brazil’ which you can buy here

I have become a tad obsessed with Mad Men recently. The craze missed me when it was first came out but I am now at the end of the 2nd series and my girl crush on Christina Hendricks grows by the day! Inspired by the fabulous makeup in the show I tried to create a ‘Mad Men’ look for a recent night out, this obviously required a red lipstick. I used MAC Russian Red to create the look, which is a slightly more blueish red and is quite matte on the lips. I used Rimmel exaggerate lip liner in 024 Red Diva to line and provide the base to my colour to give an even more matte finish and a brighter red base. I really like the results – what do you think?

Having started being brave with Reds I decided that I wanted to extend my lip colour palette and try a more ‘out there’ colour. On a shopping trip to Bluewater I visited the MAC counter in House of Fraser and advised the assistant that I was looking for a bright pink. I had my friends daughter Lilia with me (she’s 4 and like most little girls LOVES makeup) and she picked the colour that she decided looked best of the two that the assistant tried on me, we settled on ‘Girl About Town’ lipstick and Magenta Lip Pencil.

I decided to premier my pink lipped look at my friend’s wedding on Saturday and as I was wearing a bright pink top, it seemed fitting to match my lips to my outfit. I hope that you love the look as much as I do!

This pic is me and my gorgeous friend Jenna!

My plan now is to try out some more exciting colours … maybe an orange or a coral next! I shall keep you posted!

What’s your favourite lip colour?

Payday Wishlist

My bank account has taken a serious battering this month, which means that I am ever so slightly skint as this is the dreaded week before payday!

This means that I do an awful lot of window shopping during this week, planning what I am going to buy on Payday (which is the 23rd of each month) and spending all my hard earned dosh before I get it.

I thought i’d share with you my wants for this month …

The lovely Hayley of @DiamondsandDaggers has done it again and created a gorgeous necklace that I cannot wait to own!!

Union Jack Crystal Heart Pendant - "Blighty" - Diamond Jubilee Edition

The Blighty Love Shines necklace can be brought via Hayley’s Etsy shop here and is a bargain at only £25!

I have 2 necklaces and a brooch from the Love Shines collection already and can honestly say that they are beautiful, the attention to detail and craftsmanship is amazing and they are well worth the money. I can’t wait to get my Blighty necklace just in time for the Jubilee weekend!

I have sharpened by Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-on eye pencil to the very bottom and really need to replace it!

I mention these amazing eyeliners in another post and I really cannot rave about them enough, the pigment is amazing and they really do stay on – even in the waterline!

I will be ordering a replacement for my Perversion eyeliner from Debenhams, you can buy this awesome eyeliner online here for the bargain price of £13.

Whilst i’m on the subject of Makeup, I will also be ordering a new foundation brush. I absolutely love MAC’s brushes and for me the best foundation brush is 187

 187 Duo Fibre Brush

Now, this isn’t advertised as a foundation brush by MAC, they say that it is to be used to blend powder and pigments but I can honestly say that this is the best foundation brush I have ever owned. Mine is a bit cloggy now and having washed it a gazillion times I think it’s due to be retired and replaced by a new one.

This brush isn’t cheap at £32.50 but I love the way my foundation looks when applied with this so I think it’s worth every penny! You can buy this brush online from MAC here.

I am going to the Isle of Wight festival this year and am trying to get my festival capsule wardrobe sorted for the 4 days camping!

I have my eye on this gorgeous bright blue jumpsuit from @SimplybeUK that I am going to order to try

I am new to the whole jumpsuit trend by love the little leopard print playsuit that I got from Simply be so think i’m going to brave trying a long one too – they are perfect festival wear! You can order this jumpsuit for only £42 from Simply Be here

So, these are the things that are on my ‘Wishlist’ so far … I do still have a week to go though so i’m sure that it will get longer!!

Do you make a wishlist before payday? If so, whats on yours?

Love and Kisses
